Crystals and gemstones have the ability to attract positive and negative energy, and can hold that energy unless they are cleansed. The jewelry you wear, and the crystals in your aura will absorb the energies you have within you, as well as the negative energies from people and your surroundings. Therefore, they should be cleansed regularly to maintain their highest vibration. When buying new crystals it is important to cleanse, clear and re-align all unwanted vibrations before use. Crystals are handled by many people from the moment they are mined, to the moment you purchase them. Each and every person imprints their own vibration within the stone. It is important to clear the energy of others, and program it with your intention before use. Crystals need to be recharged over time. Think of them as like an energetic battery. To keep them at their highest vibration they need to be energized after a period of time or use.
Here are some of my favorite methods for clearing, charging and programming crystals.
Sun and Moon
Sunlight and Moonlight are a great easy way to not only cleanse, but charge your crystals. Place your crystals in direct sunlight or moonlight outdoors or on a window sill. Even if it is cloudy out, the rays will still clear and cleanse your stones. Leave them for at least 24 hours. Crystals such as Shungite or Black tourmaline may require more time, due to the fact that they are used to remove and deflect negative energy from your aura. Leave them for 48 hours. Some crystals will fade in the sunlight such as Amethyst, Fluorite, and Aquamarine, so it is best to leave them in the moonlight or by using other cleansing methods listed below.
Smudging
Smudging your crystals with White Sage is an easy way to cleanse your crystals. Sage is a form of deep metaphysical cleansing that actually changes the ionic composition of the air, and can remove negative energy from a space or a crystal. Simply light a smudge stick, or place dried sage in an abalone shell. Run your crystal through the smoke for a few minutes, while stating the intention for all negative energies or entities to be removed. Once the stone is cleared place in sun or moonlight for recharging, or simply hold the stone in your right hand, imagine a white light coming from the crown of your head, and into the crystal.
Using Other Crystals 
There are a few crystals that do not retain negative energy, and do not need to be cleared, such as Citrine, Kyanite and Selenite. This makes them a great choice for clearing and charging other crystals. The best way to do this would be to get a piece of citrine or a larger Kyanite or Selenite stick, and place your crystals on top, or or touching the crystals for about 24 hours.
Essential Oils
Many essential oils carry a very high vibration, and have strong cleansing effects. This makes them a great and effective method for clearing crystals. Here are a few of my favorites.
Frankincense clears the air of negativity. It removes negative influences in the body, aura, psychic and environment.
Myrrh Guards against evil and psychic attack. It brings peace, and helps to maintain a state of enlightenment, but also clears negative energy and illusions that stand in the way of seeing the truth.
Clary Sage neutralizes existing negativity and makes a psychic shield against tensions. Historically used by Native Americans to clear the air of negativity
In a 4 oz glass spray bottle fill with distilled water, and add 20 drops of each oil. Spray crystals . This will clear the crystal of any negative energies. Make sure to recharge your crystal after by sun or moonlight ,or simply hold the stone in your right hand, imagine a white light coming from the crown of your head, and into the crystal.

Programming your Crystals with Intention
After cleansing and clearing my crystals, I always program them with intention. When you program crystals, you are storing an energetic pattern to bring those specific energies to use for you. When I program my crystals I use this ritual.
- Hold your crystal in your right hand
- Imagine a white light along with whatever it is you would like the crystal to do for you, coming from the crown of your head, through your body, into your right hand, and into the crystal
Your crystal or jewelry is now cleared, charged and programmed and ready for use
